Foodborne pathogenic microorganism is one of the main cause of food poisoning. Therefore, it is urgent to develop sensitive, accurate and fast detection methods for foodborne pathogenic microorganisms to prevent the contaminated food. As a novel nucleic acid amplification method, digital PCR exhibit multiple advantages with high sensitivity, strong tolerance and absolute quantification, which has been widely used in the detection of foodborne pathogenic microorganisms. This paper introduces the technical principle, advantages and disadvantages of digital PCR. Furthermore, it provides new insights for the application of digital PCR in detecting foodborne pathogenic microorganisms.
