Principal component analysis showing the distribution of gene expression in five red-skin Italian varieties during berry ripening onto the Cabernet Sauvignon transcriptional map (Dim 1-Dim 2, top plot; Dim 1-Dim 3, bottom plot). The transcriptomic route modeled on Cabernet Sauvignon berry development is represented by gray line and numbers. Berry samples of Barbera, Negroamaro, Primitivo, Refosco, and Sangiovese represent averaged biological triplicates, as reported by Massonnet and co-authors [6]. Stages of berry development and ripening: Pea = pea size berries (BBCH 75); Touch = beginning of bunch closure (BBCH 77); Soft = berry softening (BBCH 85); Harvest = ripe berries (BBCH 89).
