Fertilizer application is crucial for enhancing crop yield and quality. Concurrently, microorganisms significantly contribute to the cycling of soil chemical elements and energy flow, which are key factors that can limit crop growth and yield. The application of various fertilizers can have distinct effects on soil microorganisms; however, the specific impacts remain unclear. In this paper, we first introduce the role of soil microorganisms and then examine the effects of different fertilizers on microbial biomass, alpha diversity, and community structure. Finally, we propose future research directions regarding the effects of fertilizers on microorganisms to provide a reference for related studies.
