Effectiveness of Brachionus plicatilis Natural Feed Utilization on the Growth of Milkfish Larvae Chanos chanos (Forskall, 1775) with Internet of Things (IoT) Based Water Quality Monitoring System

This study evaluates the effect of Brachionus plicatilis feed density on milkfish (Chanos chanos) larval growth and the role of an Internet of Things (IoT)-based water quality monitoring system in supporting an optimal environment. The study was conducted at the Laboratory of Ecosystem Breeding and Rehabilitation, Faculty of Marine Science and Fisheries, Hasanuddin University, Makassar, from April to May 2025. Three Brachionus plicatilis density treatments (10, 20, and 30 ind/ml) were tested with real-time water quality monitoring using an IoT system. The results showed that Brachionus plicatilis feeding density had a significant effect on larval weight growth, with a density of 25 ind/mL producing the best growth (P<0.05). Although there was no significant difference in larval length growth (P>0.05), The IoT system effectively monitored water quality. It is recommended to use a density of 25 ind/mL from day 1 to day 5. This density was enough for the larvae, resulting in better specific growth. However, on days 6 and 7, a 50 ind/mL density was more effective.
