Preliminary assessment of estuary environment, study case: Pangeranan estuary, Bangkalan Regency

Abstract
Pangeranan estuary is one of the estuaries in Bangkalan. The river flows through the estuary across the settlement. This condition makes the Pangeranan Estuaries vulnerable to contaminants from activity around the river or estuary areas. The aims of this study are to understand environment conditions Pengeranan estuary from preliminary assessment. This assessment uses integrated environment and social conditions of the estuary. The methods of this study using weight of environmental and social conditions. Environmental aspects are assessed using water quality, tides, and wide estuary conditions. For social aspects, the parameters that are used are demographic, land use, tourism, and local culture. All the aspects weight and score to know the classes of the conditions. Total score of weight every aspects of this study is divided into poor, moderate, and good conditions. The sample in this study was collected in 5-segment estuary with segments 1, 2, 3, 4 located near the settlement area, and segment 5 located near the open estuary area. Based on the data collected in Pangeranan estuaries shown that Pangeranan estuaries are present good condition with a 560 score in segments 1,2 and a 590 score in segments 3, 4 and 5 that present moderate condition. This condition is caused by the land use around it is still well managed with mangroves, which helps maintain the ecological condition of Pangeranan estuary.
