Diversity of sponges and their microbial composition derived from marine lake: An overview

Abstract
Marine lakes are landlocked marine water bodies isolated from the surrounding marine environment. Sponges have been found to be one of the predominant benthic taxa found in marine lakes. Currently, information regarding bacteria associated with sponges derived from marine lakes is still very limited. Further comprehensive research is required to determine the connectivity of sponges across marine lakes. The aim of this study was to reveal the diversity of sponges across marine lakes and their microbial composition through a comprehensive overview of marine lakes over the last two decades. A total of 234 sponge individuals have been identified and recorded in marine lakes, Cinachyrella sp. has been found to be the most abundant species in marine lakes and is present in most marine lakes across Indonesia and Vietnam. Proteobacteria have been found to be the most abundant bacteria associated with marine lake sponges.
