The effectiveness of the combined use of herbicide and potassium iodide in potato plantings

Abstract
As a result of the conducted research, a high efficiency of herbicidal treatment has been established in an experiment with the use of potassium iodide in potato cultivation. The use of iodine fertilizer should improve the iodine deficiency situation in the population of the NorthWestern region of Russia. In experimental variants, the death of weeds on the 14th day after treatment was 72.6 and 80.3% in 2024, 90.9 and 93.2% in 2025. The addition of potassium iodide did not lead to an increase or decrease in the effectiveness of herbicidal treatment. This indicates a good compatibility of the herbicide based on rimsulfuron and the corresponding iodide fertilizer, which can be used for planting potatoes together in a tank mixture without any restrictions. At the same time, in some species of weeds, a weakening (Fallopia convolvulus (L.) A.Löve, Elytrigia repens (L.) Desv. Ex Nevski) or an increase (Rumex acetosella L., Viola arvensis Murr.) of the herbicidal effect was observed under the influence of potassium iodide, which requires confirmation by subsequent studies.
