Number of Plants per Pot to Produce Sweet and Baby-Corn Simultaneously Planted in Used-Mineral-Water Gallons

Abstract
The simultaneous production of sweet-corn and baby-corn was considered smart, efficient, and simple agricultural practice. This approach became more interesting when the plants were grown in house-yards and cultivated in recycle materials, such as, used-mineral-water-gallons as pots. The objective of this research was to determine productivity of growing two (T2), three (T3), and four (T4) plants per pot, in which a single main plant was maintained for sweet-corn, and others for baby-corn productions. The study utilized a commercial-hybrid-sweet corn variety. Statistical analyses of ANOVA and LSD-test, were conducted using Randomized-Block-Design (RBD) with three blocks, consisting of a total of 45 pots. The results showed that agricultural practice can be recommended with careful consideration. The plants were able to grow well, reaching heights of 194–218 cm and beginning to flower at 62–72 days. Baby-corn was harvested at approximately 80 days, yielding 12–13 g fresh-weight per pot, while sweet-corn was harvested at about 96 days, yielding 129–152 g fresh-weight per pot, with sugar contents of approximately 4% and 11%, respectively. Additionally, a benefecial by-product of this agricultural practice reaching total 559–901 g of fresh-corn husk and green-plant biomass per pot, which could be useful to feed animal livestock.
