Welcoming Remarks from the Chair
Dear honourable guests, respected colleagues, and ladies and gentlemen.
On behalf of the whole Program Committee, I would like to kindly welcome you to BioMIC 2020 -The 3rd International Conference on Bioinformatics, Biotechnology and Biomedical Engineering. It is an honour to be here with you today. The BioMIC 2020 is part of UGM Annual Scientific Conferences (UASC) series. This conference is presented by Badan Penerbit dan Publikasi, Universitas Gadjah Mada.
Our purpose is providing an ideal academic platform for researchers to disseminate their sophisticated research works and development of technologies and directions in bioinformatics, biotechnology, and biomedical engineering through five symposia: Bioinformatics and Biological Data Mining, Biomedical Science and Engineering, Biomolecular and Biotechnology, Drug Development and Nutraceutical, and Public Health symposium.
It is our satisfaction that we received 87 submissions in total throughout six countries such as Indonesia, Thailand, Australia, Japan, Sweden, and the United States of America. Based on the results of the rigorous review process, 6 papers have been selected. We will submit the accepted and presented paper to BIO Web of Conference proceeding which are indexed by Clarivate Analytics.
We are very grateful to have the invited speakers in order to enrich the discussions in BioMIC 2020. And we would like to deliver our highest acknowledgement towards the scientific committee for their dedication reviewing manuscripts we received. We also would like to thank the organizing committee for their extraordinary effort that brought us to be able to meet virtually.
Although we cannot greet each other in our usual way, we still have another way to interact, discuss, share insights, and enhance our mind with other researchers as well as colleagues from various perspectives . We do hope you find this event fruitful for your future career, for the sake of knowledge, and also for the benefit of humankind. Thank you.

Welcoming Remarks from the Rector of Universitas Gadjah Mada
Dear distinguished speakers, participants, ladies, and gentlemen,
On behalf of Universitas Gadjah Mada, I warmly welcome all of you today at the 3rd Conference on Bioinformatics, Biotechnology, and Biomedical Engineering hosted by Badan Penerbit dan Publikasi Universitas Gadjah Mada (BPP UGM) as part of the UGM Annual Scientific Conference 2020. In particular, I would like to extend my gratitude to distinguished keynote speaker. Prof. Nawi Ng from University of Gothenburg, Sweden; Assoc. Prof. Kaya Yoshida from Tokushima University, Japan; Kenji Tago Ph.D from Jichi Medical University, Japan; Prof. Taifo Mahmud, Ph.D from Oregon State University, United States of America; and Dr. Adhika Widyaparaga from Universitas Gadjah Mada, Indonesia.
Universitas Gadjah Mada has a long-standing and avid tradition in research, making it the most academically prolific university in Indonesia. History of UGM’s education has earned a reputation as a pioneering university, pushing the boundaries between academics and professionals across the world, to serve and discover scientific progress as a valuable source of knowledge for the benefit of humankind. We are proud of our consistency maintaining our intellectual culture through events such as this. We are hopeful that this year’s BioMIC will significantly inspire other academicians or researchers to achieve an even greater impact in life sciences.
We crystalize all our aspirations in the tagline “Innovating Education, Strengthening Our Nation.” We have served as the sanctuary of professional academicians, and overtimes we keep realizing that we need to solidify our national interest into more meaningful and in-depth efforts, that it through education, research and community service. We believe that education is the first step to build paths for broader knowledge, to understand even wider realities that we see every day. However, knowledge means nothing without a form of realization after enduring a long time of classroom- or lab-based studies. Those activities indeed strengthen such abilities as a problem- and analytical-solving. Thus, to show our sense of responsibility and societal piety in the process of building a better place for our nation, we constantly reinforce the idea of research and inspiring researchers to produce reports of their study and publish them as articles in scholarly periodicals or conferences. And eventually, we are all here to witness several of them being present.
Nowadays, the world is in a pandemic situation, which requires us to adapt to the current situation. The pandemic has changed many habits of human life, but we believe that this situation cannot diminish our intellectual ability to always contribute knowledge to the world. The wonderful thing about BioMIC is bridging the gap between disciplines through this conference to bring and share their innovation, research, and ideas about our scientific issues today. UGM is proud to be leading the way in facilitating the interdisciplinary research dissemination of cutting-edge information. We are proud to conduct this conference, even though we conduct this conference virtually.
This year’s BioMIC has attracted prospective scholars and researchers from both Indonesia and abroad to congregate here, seeking for future collaborative work among institutions which will elevate the visibility of researchers or academicians, convenience in building an academic network, and a chance to increase long-term partnership both in domestic and international domain. I would like to take the time to express my deepest gratitude to invited speakers, experts and participants who have taken their precious time to be here. I would also like to extend my gratitude for the organizing committee and the entire staff of UGM’s Badan Penerbit dan Publikasi for their arduous effort in making all of this possible. Let us gather today to cherish and celebrate the spirit of diversity and empowerment science. Lastly, I wish you a pleasant and enjoy this conference.
Thank you very much for your attention.
