| Project | A research project is the general framework for research activities, including one or more experiments, depending on the project objectives. It is generally the object of a contract or a grant agreement between the laboratory performing the research activities and funding agencies providing financial support. |
| Experiment | A planned and organized inquiry designed to test a hypothesis, answer a question, or discover new facts. |
| Experimental design | The set of rules and procedures by which the treatments are assigned to experimental units. |
| Experimental factor | The object of a study is to ascertain the impact of one or more factors on the biological material. Thus, a factor is, by definition, a condition that varies between observation units, which may be biotic (pest, disease interaction) or abiotic (treatment and cultural practice) in nature. |
