It analyses the current state of agriculture in Russia, identifies factors limiting its efficiency, such as lagging behind in technology and the lack of an effective system of innovation transfer. The study is based on the analysis of literary sources, statistical data and the results of experimental work. Particular attention is paid to the need to introduce modern agro-technologies, such as differentiated fertiliser application, precision seeding and the use of crop monitoring systems. It is shown that their application can significantly increase the yield and quality of agricultural products. The need to create a national innovation system, including adequate scientific and educational support, as well as effective public-private partnerships, is emphasised. It is concluded that the modernisation of agriculture is a strategically important task for Russia, requiring a comprehensive approach and active interaction between scientific institutions, business and the state.
