Coastal areas have a strategic role in ecology, economy, and society, but face various threats such as environmental degradation, overfishing, and pollution. The low ecological awareness among the young generation of coastal areas is a challenge that requires a holistic approach. This study aims to explore the role of parenting patterns in forming a generation that cares about the ocean in coastal areas, by highlighting effective parenting patterns in building ecological awareness. This study uses a qualitative method with a case study approach in coastal communities Talaga Baru, Lasalimu, Buton. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis, then analyzed thematically. The results of the study indicate that parenting patterns based on local cultural values, combined with family-based environmental education, are effective in increasing awareness of the younger generation regarding the importance of preserving the marine environment. The implication of this finding is the need for integration of environmental education into family parenting patterns, supported by a technological approach to facilitate the dissemination of information and wider family involvement. This study makes a significant contribution in filling the literature gap related to the role of families in environmental conservation, while also offering empirical guidance for designing family-based empowerment programs to support the sustainability of coastal ecosystems.
