Local Wisdom and Environment Preservation Aspects; Study Case of Traditional Rite “Sedekah Sampar Banyu” Wonolopo, Mijen Semarang

This study describes the local wisdom of the Wonolopo community in Mijen, Semarang. The harmonic relationship between the people and their environment, also among the community's harmonic themselves. People's action is a thing that has taken root and become a daily habit. The life of the people has harmony between their necessity's fulfillment and conditions of the natural environment. Comply the nature's rules with a belief and tradition has made it as a wisdom. Localwisdom in the form of belief towards water-source has caused the authenticity of the environment maintained. The preserved water-source with a fair utilization. Shady trees have prominent role in maintaining waterflow continuity to fulfill agriculture necessities and the aspects of life. This research using qualitative approach with observation, interview and documentation as techniques to collect data. The available data is analyzed using a comparative descriptive method. The results of the study reveal that the relationship between the Wonolopo community and its environment is harmonious and balanced. The community's belief in the traditional "Sampar Banyu" ceremony plays a role in preserving the environment in the area.
